Drew Charter Elementary Dance Enrichment Program

Dance is movement, visually organized in space and time. The way a dance shapes a moment defines the critical attributes of its style, genre, and place in history of the dance. A dancer's skills and techniques are often based on tradition and passed down from one generation to the next. Dance is in a continuous and constant state of self -definition and evolving with tradition.

Charles R. Drew Charter School provides student s with the opportunity to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of dance

as an art form. Students learn and refine dance skills and techniques in class and in performances. They study the historical and cultural significance of dance and its evolution as well as contribution as an art form, also the students evaluate personal work and the work of others throughout their class rehearsals as well as performances. In the process of studying dance, students accomplish many tasks and gain knowledge in a number of ways, developing skills that are valuable for achievement in other areas of school and life.
